  • At what stage of construction is AeroBarrier applied?
AIR BARRIER AT EXTERIOR: AeroBarrier is installed right before insulating unless the insulation is spray foam, in which case it's best after spray foam. AIR BARRIER AT DRYWALL: Installed at any stage between drywall taping and drywall priming. More info:Install Requirements
  • Can you apply AeroBarrier in an occupied residence/building?
AeroBarrier application is not appropriate for occupied residences/buildings. It's only applied in new construction or gut-remodels before finishes are installed.
  • Is it safe to breathe during application?
No. Technicians entering the space during sealing wear personal protective equipment (PPE). The area is safe without protective gear 20-30 minutes after sealing is complete.
  • What's in the stuff being sprayed?
AeroBarrier sealant is a waterborne acrylic used as a permeable air barrier for years. It's GREENGUARD Gold certified and tested for fire spread, smoke production, adhesion, antifungal properties, etc. It’s low VOC and has no off-gassing.
  • How long does it take to apply?
The entire AeroBarrier process generally takes around 4 hours for a typical single-family home. Additional time may be required for more stringent envelope leakage levels like Passive House or ZERH.
  • How much does AeroBarrier cost?
Cost depends on building size, installation phase, initial building leakage, and desired airtightness. After determining project specs, a quote is provided. Schedule a meeting:Contact
  • What is the lifecycle of the product, or how long does the tight seal last?
Lab testing shows AeroBarrier can withstand a simulated 50-year durability test with little to no seal degradation. Durability test results:Here
  • What size leaks will this seal?
AeroBarrier seals holes as large as ½ inch and as tiny as a human hair. It’s highly effective for narrow gaps and tiny holes that are often missed in manual sealing.
  • What surfaces need to be protected?
Minimal preparation is required for vertical surfaces like walls and windows. Designed openings like ducts, electrical, and plumbing are covered before sealing. Finished horizontal surfaces are covered.
  • Can the sealing be performed in cold weather?
Sealing requires temperature control and pressurizing the areas. Ideal conditions are an outdoor temperature of ≥ 40˚F, but sealing below 40˚F may need additional preparation steps.
